Environmental Technician Jobs in Hammonton, NJ
An Environmental Technician, also known as an Environmental Science and Protection Technician, is a professional who monitors the environment and investigates sources of pollution and contamination, including those affecting health. They may work under environmental scientists to identify, reduce, and eradicate pollutants and hazards. They collect samples of soil, water, and air, and then perform tests on these samples to measure pollution levels. Additionally, they document their findings and prepare reports which might be used for regulatory purposes. Technicians also work on remediation projects, which are aimed at cleaning up pollution in concentrated areas.
Important skills for an Environmental Technician include problem-solving, analytical, and scientific skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team. Many positions require a postsecondary degree in natural science or science-related technology, though some entry-level positions may only require an associate degree. Additionally, certain states require licensure for environmental technicians conducting asbestos, lead, or radon removal or abatement. Prior job roles that can lead to a role as an Environmental Technician may include Laboratory Assistant, Research Assistant, or Field Assistant.
