ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE IN ALASKA

Our environmental team supports various client needs for evaluations, regulatory permitting and National Environmental Policy Act documentation requirements for infrastructure improvements across the state. We are a dynamic team dedicated to responsible development that enhances the quality of life in the Alaskan communities we serve. We offer diverse work opportunities to support environmental compliance for projects in roadway, aviation, rail, water resources engineering, and pipeline and facility design. This position also has cross-discipline opportunities to work in transportation and community planning, as well as public outreach and communications.

DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Specialist will work within our Transportation group which includes environmental, highway and aviation design, planning, and public outreach/communications. This position will be focused on Alaska business and clients but will have opportunities to work on projects with our other offices throughout the US. The selected candidate may be based in our Anchorage or Fairbanks offices

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare documentation in compliance National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements, working with design team on alternative analysis
  • Prepare permit applications for various resource impacts including wetlands and waterbodies, fish and habitat and floodplain
  • Conduct field and desktop surveys and studies for wetlands, habitat assessments, and other environmental resource impacts
  • Perform environmental research and analysis
  • Conduct formal agency coordination and public outreach
  • Assist with proposal production and marketing initiatives

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, wildlife management, environmental studies or related sciences field
  • 2-5 years related experience conducting environmental field studies and preparing NEPA documentation, technical reports, and permit applications for various proposed developments and projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with technical writing and presentation of data in logical formats (charts, graphs, tables)
  • Proficiency with GIS use for database and map/figure production
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Interest in cross-training with Planning (environmental, transportation, and community/urban) as well as public outreach and communications a plus

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position $85k-$115k per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
